Chief Engineer（Robotics）
THE COMPANY
August Robotics is a recent start-up which builds bespoke robotic solutions to augment and enhance the day-to-day lives of ordinary people.
We believe that over the next generation, bespoke robotic assistants will become ubiquitous in peoples day-to-day lives, and August Robotics aspires to be at the forefront of this “robotics revolution”.
August Robotics was founded in 2016 in Australia by Alex Wyatt, and now has presences in China (Shenzhen & Hong Kong) and Australia (Melbourne).
THE ROLE
As one of the first employees of the company, this role is a rare opportunity for entreprenuerial candidates looking to “get in at the ground floor” of a robotics start-up with extremely ambitious goals for the future.
The Lead Engineer will be responsible for managing a small team of engineers to design and build prototypes of the robotic products selected by the company for futher analysis. In the first instance, the prototypes will be small and relatively simple products. But in later years, the size of the engineering team will grow and the complexity of the products may increase.
The Lead Engineer will take the leading role in the coding and development of the prototypes from start-to-finish, setting the overall technical direction, managing timelines, managing deliverables and assisting the team to troubleshoot problems in delivering the final outcome.
Once the prototypes are finalised, and have been reviewed by the company and its investors, the Lead Engineer will be responsible for the development, testing and manufacturing of the chosen products, and helping to bring them to market.
The role will be based in August Robotics’office in Shenzhen, China.
YOUR SKILLS
You must show:
· Honours degree or equivalent from a top-tier University in Computer Science, Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline
· Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese (fluency in written or spoken English is not required, but would be very helpful)
· Expert level programming skills in several languages (eg. Python, C, C++,
· Expert level skills in Unix / Linux / Ubuntu
· Personal energy, determination and drive
You must also have at least five years work experience as a software and/or hardware developer:
· Experience in an industry related to robotics (eg. consumer electronics, transport & logistics, defence or automated manufacturing) is preferred
· End-to-end experience with a small robotics and/ or electronics project in which the final product was ultimately successfully deployed is strongly preferred
· Experience building mobile phone apps and/or other human computer interfaces is preferred, but not required
· Familiarity with indoor localisation technologies would be very helpful, but is not required
You should be comfortable with ambiguity and excited by the idea of working in an entrepreneurial culture. You should be willing to jump in and lend a hand on a range of different issues when the need arises.
